Over the entire existence of this model, more than 2.1 million copies have been sold worldwide, so the manufacturer approached the change in the exterior of a recognizable car with caution, although it gave the new product the “bold” features of the last NX. So, a spindle-shaped radiator grill, all-LED optics and optional 20-inch wheels, which replaced the 19-inch ones, took their place.

The novelty has also grown in size: overall length was 4,889 mm, width - 1,894 mm, and height - 1,689 mm. The distance between the front and rear axles is 2,788 mm. Thus, the crossover has become 119 mm longer, 9 mm wider and 1 mm lower than its predecessor, and the difference between the axles was 48 mm in favor of the new generation RX.

Under the updated appearance, a more durable and rigid body frame is hidden, as well as improved soundproofing materials. The suspension of the car remained unchanged in layout (McPherson in front and double wishbones in the rear), but the manufacturer noted that the new settings improved the handling of the off-road vehicle. In addition, the model received an adaptive chassis Adaptive Variable Suspension, which adjusts the parameters of the shock absorbers to the driving conditions. This system is designed to reduce body roll when cornering at high speeds.

The driver can also choose from three engine and transmission modes (Eco, Normal and Sport S), in addition to which, along with the F Sport package, an “aggressive” Sport S + mode appears.

At the start of sales, the new RX was offered in two versions: RX 350 and RX 450h. The first received a 3.5-liter "six" with a capacity of 300 hp. (23 hp more than its predecessor), paired with a new 8-speed "automatic". The RX 450h version was equipped with a hybrid powertrain, which also included a 3.5-liter V6 engine operating on a cycle Atkinson  and electric motor. The total power of the hybrid installation was 300 hp. (same as for current RX ).
